This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, the franchise being covered here wouldn’t exist.

Happy Star Trek Day! To celebrate the occasion, the franchise has kicked off a new campaign called “Boldly Be,” which will feature contributions from Grammy Award-winning musician Kid Cudi (a.k.a. Scott Mescudi).

While we don’t have many details of the “Boldly Be” campaign yet, we do know that it’s inspired by the Vulcan philosophy of IDIC (Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations). Kid Cudi kicked off the campaign today with the release of the teaser video above, which is strong on vibes but coy about the details of what we’ll see.

“I grew up watching Star Trek with my dad who is single handedly responsible for turning me into a fan,” Mescudi said in a statement. “The most important thing to me is to be as authentic as possible. Star Trek’s mission has always been about having a hopeful future and when I was first approached about this project it was the perfect marriage of all the things I believe in—being brave and a hero by doing what’s right and fighting for freedom. I can’t wait to share my love of this incredible franchise with the world.”

Mescudi’s contribution to the campaign includes an original song inspired by Star Trek, an interactive gaming experience, and a fashion collaboration that will come out sometime in October. You can learn more about the “Boldly Be” campaign on StarTrek.com. We also got a poster to celebrate the collaboration, which you can take a gander at below:
